Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi

$

Hi - I want to run LMS on a Raspberry Pi (rather than Win10) for a bunch of reasons. I have zero experience of the Pi and still need to buy one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I need it to:

- connect to 3 wired SB3s and a wireless SB Radio, all sync'd

- play a 200GB FLAC library

- stream internet radio - ideally to include BBC iPlayer (or PlayHLS)

- the Raspberry Pi can be either wired or wireless (would slightly prefer wired for reliability when syncing)

Questions:

- which Pi version to buy? The lastest Pi 4? Or a cheaper Pi 3 B+? Or something else?

- is there a beginners guide to get me going? I don't even know which operating system to use! I am used to Windows and DOS (! - remember that?)

Hi, I'm a n00b on linux even tho I have used it for over 20 years :D

I'm currently on an 7 years old kubuntu with a small boot disk, so I've manually moved squeezebox var, lib and log folders to another disk. So my question is: is it possible to install lms completely on another disk?

Currently on LMS 7.7.2 as i didn't dare update after logitech stopped supporting. Awesome that someone else took over :D

exporting using Database Query plug-in

I have RP 4 and I just added this plug-in so I can export some of the information into a CSV file. However, when I attempt that, instead of creating a CSV file, it creates a binfile. What am I missing?

Link to latest Ubuntu istallation guide wiki?

Could someone kindly point to the latest LMS installation guide on Ubuntu? There are so many links to obsolete guides that it seems hard to actually find the right one as I am not in front of my home computer. The wiki I fond has no mention of Ubuntu...

PS: Solved thanks - http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...stalling_7.9.2

PS2: Any reason why we should use any of the 7.9.2+ releases?

pCP plays music but won't connect to server

This problem has dogged me for a while. I have two pCPs that will show up in the server as a device, and will play music when controlled by the server, but when i try to attach them to the server via the JiveLite display, I claims it can't connect to the server. I've tried ssh'ing into the pCP and then from there ssh-ing into the server, so I know the connectivity exists. My one other pcP does connect to the server properly, and can be controlled via the UI.

Any thoughts on what to try?

Thanks!

Hello,
I'm running picoreplayer on a Raspberry Pi 4 and it works great. I need to know the Tiny Core Linux commands to:

a) check the firmware version of the Raspberry Pi.
b) if necessary, download and update the firmware.

Thanks!

piCorePlayer Set HDMI output as the default output at startup even if not connected

Hello alltogether,

I hope I haven´t overlooked a thread in which that is already discussed but the HDMI output of Squeezelite only works for me if my Amplifier is also turned on at the startup of the raspberrypi running piCorePlayer. How can I force the HDMI output to be used regardless of that circumstance ? For Raspbian there is a tutorial(https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.co...o-turn-on-hdmi) but I haven´t figured out how to do this on TinyCoreLinux.

Code:

piCorePlayer v6.0.0 | www v0005 | linux 4.19.105-pcpCore_v7 | piCore v10.3pCP | Squeezelite v1.9.6-1206-pCP

How to Get my BIOS to Recognize a USB Drive

I have installed ubuntu on my ASUS Tablet T100HA and it is running fine. I wanted to load another Linux Distro that I have on a USB. I got into the Tablet BIOS and checked the Boot Order, but all that is listed is [ubuntu] for #1 and [ubuntu] for #2.

I have another Linux Distro that I would like to try, but it does not show up in the BIOS Screen, so that I can boot from it.

I am totally new to Linux, but thought I would take this Covid timeout to learn something new. So, I would appreciate any experts out there to help me out.. Thanks Much!

Update from pcp 3.5 to 6.0 , can't get screensavers to work

$

Looking for some help. I've just updated my LMS server and player from PiCorePlayer 3.5 (yep, been a long time since I set this up!) to PCP6.0.
I'm using a Pi3 with an Allo Digione DAC HAT , official pi 7" screen running Jivelite just as a player. LMS is running on another pi3 with SSD attached with my music.
The problem I have is I cannot get the screensavers to display for 'now playing' or to show the clock when stopped when using the Digione/pi screen. Actually that probably isn't the problem - the problem is I can't find where to set the screensaver, which is the reason they're not displaying.
I was sure this was done through LMS previously. In fact, if I go to LMS and select my Logitech Boom as the player I see the listings for setting the screensavers but when I select the Digione I don't. Any hints as to how I do this as it worked perfectly in 3.5? Thanks!

Power Interruptions & Timezone Loss

Hi;

I hesitate to even mention this issue, but it is unique, I thought I would.

I am running LMS on PcP 6 at home, but at my current location, I am running 4.1. If the answer is to install 6 and "then try it" that's fine. I hesitate because it's a bit of work to get at the server and sd card. If the answer is "get a UPS" then that's fine too...:)

Pi 3B+, Picore 4.1, running LMS only. I have a USB Hdd with my library attached, so a self contained server/library. The LMS server preferences and cache are moved to the HDD (per picore "how to" instructions). I should also mention I am running SAMBA to create a network drive (windows 10).

At this location we have frequent power failures (forest and wind = power lines down), but I have also seen this when I intentionally shut down and restart.

The spiral of events and work to restore things is as follows:

1) After the power failure, the timezone in the tweak page must be corrupted. The field is blank. My touch has a blank time screensaver (no time to display). My radio and boom display goofy incorrect times. As a side effect, I noticed that the RP FLAC Interactive streams won't play, but the regular FLAC ones do. note that the rest of the system operates just fine, favorites, music library, etc. It's only when I try to fix the time that I break everything.
2) I go into tweaks, clear the field, and reboot the Pcp.
3) Often the reboot never completes, and I have to manually shut down power, but the end result is LMS has lost it's way. No library, no favorites, in fact (from memory) it might only offer MySB.com
4) I think what happens is the PcP/LMS loses track of the HDD with the LMS data. I usually go into the LMS page, see the USB drive is mounted visually in the UI (but I don't think that LMS sees it). What I have to do is this (on the PcP LMS page):
a) move the LMS data to the SD card
b)unmount the HDD drive, then remount it.
c) move the LMS data back to the HDD
5) What this results in is the loss of my favorites (I have a backup so I manually restore), and I have to do a complete rescan. I am not sure about what happens to the plugins, the ones that I use (RP App, Material Skin, Squeezelite-X, etc) seem to be there, but maybe they are by default.

Often, Usually, LMS is streaming when the power failure happens, but it doesn't seem like the SD Card is getting irretrievably corrupted, as I can recover without a reformat/redo.

Whats telling is that the system seems to mostly recover from the power failure (except time display, RP interactive), everything works, it sees the HDD, it plays favorites, library. It's when I try to "fix" it is really breaks.

We had a windstorm and a couple power failures yesterday, and I am playing my system with a messed up clock, and no flac interactive, but everything else works so, I hesitate to try to fix it :). Maybe it's time to do the version 6 upgrage....

Jivelite + piCorePlayer 6 confused by NIC change / player no longer seen by LMS

Bug report:

When changing network adapters on a Jivelite pCP, you must save settings after chosing the "player" associated with the new adapter. Failing to do so leads to misleading "Connecting to $LMSServerName..." spinny situations.

Background:

I'm building a Jivelite pCP 6 player with a Pi 3B+. I found the onboard wifi unreliable once all was assembled in the touchscreen case and switched to a USB WiFi adapter. The pCP obtains an IP address but seems not to be connected to LMS -- screensaver's not right, My Music doesn't work, lots of "Connecting to $LMSServerName..." roadblocks. "Try again" and "Switch library" are useless. But in Choose Player I see my pCP listed twice. if I select the correct player, suddenly all is well. After going to Extras > piCorePlayer and saving settings to SD card, future boots work fine and Choose Player shows only one entry for the pCP.

To me this mostly seems to be Jivelite problems -- "Connecting to $LMSServerName..." when it in fact has no trouble connecting and authenticating to LMS, failing to understand that the previously saved player mapped to a local NIC whose MAC LMS no longer recognizes. I would suggest that Jivelite should drop users on the Choose Player screen if it's unable to control the previously saved player because the identifier (MAC addr) is no longer found in LMS' list of current players. And maybe occasionally retry while that screen is showing to more gracefully handle scenarios like post-power-restoration if Jivelite started up before the controlled player re-registered itself with LMS.

Many thanks to all of you working on pCP, Jivelite for all your great work. This looks very promising. (Hopefully all that's left is a bit of testing with the TSOP4838 IR receiver, some drilling, and some soldering...)

pCP solutions for "digital photo frame"

There's the Image Viewer screensaver you could use. I've never used it
with Jivelite or pCP. But in theory it would allow you to store images
on a USB stick or SD card and show them as a screensaver. Or you could
create a list with image URLs and store it on some web server. See
Settings/Display/Screensaver.

> I've thought maybe the "Picture
> Gallery" plugin might be the solution, but that doesn't seem to install

How would it fail to install?

pCP 6: can't turn Jivelite *on* with Slim remote power button

$

I have IR working pretty well with Jivelite/pCP with the official 7" screen 6 using keytables/GPIO/TSOP4838, but I have encountered one weird thing -- while I can use a genuine Logitech Squeezebox remote to turn Jivelite off with a single press of the Power button, I cannot turn it on that way. If I tap the power button on the SB candy bar remote when Jivelite is off, I see a flash of an "on" screen but a fraction of a second later it turns off again. I am able to go from off to on by tapping the left arrow on the remote, but not the power button. This even happens when connecting to a "clean" instance of LMS that runs no 3rd-party plugins. I am using the Custom Clock applet but this behavior happens whether I'm using that for any screensavers or not.

Any ideas?

GPIO Poweroff 'blink'

Hi

I've configured the GPIO Poweroff in pCP 'Tweaks' tab to GPIO17 'Active Low'.
When pCP is running, the connected relay to this GPIO is energized, and all is working well.
When I reboot pCP the relay gets energized upon boot.

BUT:
When I issue the 'Shutdown command', pCP shuts down and before the relay is completely powered off, it 'blinks' once.
So the state goes from ON to briefly OFF, back to briefly ON and then remains OFF.
What might be causing this behavior?

LiFePO4wered/Pi+

Dear people.

Since some time I user of LMS and Picoreplayers troughout the house for sonos like experience but better.
I recently wanted to use a headphone amp hat on a project and the only one was the Pirate Audio with screen and buttons.
http://kiwi-electronics.nl/pim-482

A bit of an overkill but made me think of a totally different option. A portable wifi pocket streamer. Thanks to this amazing tutorial I was able to make it work https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...l=1#post971970

But now the battery part. I for some time really liked the LiFePO4 idea since its more fire safe and durable.
https://lifepo4wered.com/lifepo4wered-pi+.html

It came in today, but in the newer version it needs a boot veryfication to stay powered for more then 5 minutes. So it really needs this driver
"The reason is that the LiFePO4wered/Pi+™ firmware includes a timeout for the
boot sequence with a default length of 5 minutes. If the LiFePO4wered/Pi+™ is turned on and doesn’t
get notified by the host daemon that the system has booted within 5 minutes, the power will be turned
off. "

I found out the hard way and installing the driver is not so simple for a tiny linux install unfortunately...
So installing it this way is not possible.
https://github.com/xorbit/LiFePO4wered-Pi

I hope someone here has experience getting it to work with a piCoreplayer setup?
Google only tagged people who had this in their signature but no discussions I could find so fat concerning picore player or other tinylinux distro's.

Thanks in advance!

p.s. Im a Linux newbie, but I try hard to get there to make it work always

piCorePlayer and On / Off software switch

Hello,

I'm looking t implement a software safe-shutdown switch to my Picoreplayer.
I tried to follow this process and install that script below to no avail as there are missing dependencies.
https://howchoo.com/g/mwnlytk3zmm/ho...r-raspberry-pi

Is there a way to use something similar?

As my streamer is going to draw power from the dock of an old B&W Zeppelin, it's quite important for me to be able to shutdown the Pi and not let it run of off the dock 24/7.

Many thanks

No display required. There's a plugin for Qobuz, and mobile control is
possible using one of several mobile apps, or eg. the Material skin
(plugin).

PiCorePlayer as wireless bridge

$

Hi

I understand PiCorePlayer can work as a Wifi access point but I'd like to use it as a wireless bridge (like the old SB3 once did).

Specifically I'd like to connect the Pi to a PVR by ethernet cable so the PVR can update the EPG over the Pi's wifi.
If I can't do this, I can always get a USB wifi adapter to plug into the PVR, but I thought this might be a more interesting approach.

So, can I include user commands at the startup that would bridge the ethernet port to the wireless port?
But I presume I'd want to do this after the Wifi has been configured rather than before?

I did find that this https://sourceforge.net/projects/bridger/
But wouldn't know where to start....

Thanks
